Our Programs

Welcome to Traditions Academy of Dance. We are an R.A.D (Royal Academy of Dance), an I.S.T.D. (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Syllabus Academy of Dance.

Our studio is conveniently located with ample parking near downtown Whitby at 307 Brock Street North.

‘Traditions’ offers a wide range of exciting programs for the recreational dancer as well as the more serious-minded or pre-professional dance student. Having a dual-syllabus program adds significant enhancement to the dancer's technique! Current programs include: Modern, Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Acro Arts, R.A.D. Pre-School Program, and our new Kinder Dance.  Our highly qualified and experienced adult faculty welcomes students from the age of 2½ to adult.

The annual recital offers all of our students the opportunity to experience rehearsing and performing on stage. Students in our syllabus classes have the added opportunity of preparing for and doing internationally recognized exams. Our competitive students perform in a wide variety of dance forms at a number of local and international competitions.

RAD & ISTD

Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)

The Graded Syllabus is designed to meet the needs of young people ages 6 and up who attend ballet class once or twice a week. The syllabus has been carefully structured by a panel of experts beginning with Pre-Primary and followed by nine levels of Primary through to Grade 8. These touch on the full spectrum of qualities a youngster may gain from the study of ballet such as: awareness of one’s own body and its capabilities for movement; expression and sensitivity; the sense of achievement which comes from mastering a goal and moving on to the next challenge. These levels are all geared with a growing child’s physical, emotional and artistic development in mind. Above all, the Graded Syllabus is designed to be enjoyed. It should bring pleasure as well as sense of achievement of the student who progresses from one grade to the next. The natural delight in dancing is combined with the knowledge and self-discipline gained by the study of classical ballet. Annual examinations are not compulsory. Nevertheless, they are an invaluable yardstick by which parents and teachers can measure the student’s progress and level of achievement. Students are eligible for Affiliate Membership of the Royal Academy of Dance once they have completed the Grade 6, 7 or 8 examinations.

Mini Dancers and Kinder Dance Curriculum

Demi_SAVVAS_1325E

“The Mini Dancers and Kinder Dance curriculum aims to capture and nurture young children’s instinctive joy of movement and freedom of expression. Through participation, children should learn to move and learn through movement in a child-centred learning environment that encourages exploration, independence and social interaction. The Mini Dancers and Kinder Dance programs are designed to enable children to participate in dance activities that are developmentally appropriate, helping to facilitate the learning of dance skills at a later age. Through participation, children can be motivated to continue with dance throughout childhood and beyond, acquiring the skills and attitudes necessary for leading healthy and active lives.”
